Memory quilts

Many quilters like to make memory quilts from family neckties.  There are many traditional patterns that would be suitable to maximize the use of ties.  You could use a Dresden Plate template to cut wedges from both ends of a tie - including the lined tip for a finished edge for easy applique.  A log cabin block can be made from 1 1/2" - 2" wide cuts.  Chinese Coin can use assorted width cuts.  Wide ends can be cut to a large square to showcase the fabric.  Look at traditional patterns in a new way!  And as always, stabilize with fusible interfacing before cutting...
