Working with heavy-weight silk ties
I find that the heavy-weight woven silk ties generally do not need to be stabilized for many uses. Green or autumn-colored ties make good leaves for 3-D applique. Cut with pinking shears or rotary blades to minimize fraying and stitch veins before or while adding to your project. These ties may have too much stretch for piecing, but if sewn to stabile pieces, they will retain their shape.
