Stitch lengths for clothing
Unlike patchwork's shorter stitch length (2.0 on my machines), clothing construction uses a variety of stitch lengths. For basic construction, a 2.5 length is recommended; for staystitching, 2.0 to 2.5; for reinforcing a corner, 1.5 is best. Decorative topstitching can be 2.5 - 3.5, depending on choice of thread - heavier or flat threads better with the longer stitches.
