Pressing with ties

When you get ready to use those holiday ties for a "new" tree skirt or table topper, remember that many of them are probably polyester.  Set your iron to a warm setting when pressing these ties, or when pressing any projects that used polyester fabrics.  A spray starch alternative can help to press out wrinkles.  To test for fiber content if you are not certain, snip a small scrap and hold carefully to a flame (over a sink).  Polyester will melt; silk turns to ash.
