Necktie basics

More of the basics of recycling ties...I wash mine intact - before taking anything apart.  This minimizes any fraying that might result from agitation in a washer or tumbling in a dryer (yes, you can do this!).  Then I take out the main seam - usually hand-sewn with a strong thread and snip any "security" stitches at the ends.  I DO NOT remove the lining from the ends, as they make lovely prairie points.  These can be cut off 3"- 4" from the tip and reserved for later use, unless the tip is critical to a specific project such as a skirt or dress.
