A collection of ties

What to do with a collection of ties?  Make a memory quilt, perhaps combining a family member's ties with some of the shirts he wore in a patchwork design.  If you want to showcase large designs, choose a pattern with large pieces like "Ohio Star", or an abstract design scattering the large pieces over a background.  A large collection can be showcased in a "Chinese Coins" pattern.  The narrow ends of the ties are good for this pattern, as they can be cut up to 3" wide to showcase the tie's pattern.  As always, I recommend stabilizing the tie pieces with lightweight fusible interfacing.
