Ties in a quilt background

Some of the applique quilts I've made with neckties have a pieced background of ties.  To make the background, I pieced 8"-10"pieces of ties to a muslin background, making 3 pieced strips a bit longer than needed - about 20".  Then I cut matching gentle curves down the length, pieced the strips together, and trimmed to the size needed.
