Jacket sleeve adjustment

You've cut out and sewn your jacket together, only to discover that the sleeves are up to an inch too short.  If the sleeves were to be bound, open the end of the sleeve seam 5-6" and add a small cuff or band.  Cut a rectangle of a complementary fabric 3" x the length of the bottom of the sleeve and fold in half lengthwise.  If you have used batting, cut a 1 1/2" wide piece of this also and sandwich it inside the folded cuff.  Then sew one long side of the cuff right sides together to the bottom of the sleeve, including the optional batting in the seam.  Finish the sleeve seam, including the added piece.  Turn the raw edge to the inside and sew over the seam.  Topstitch 3/8" from the lower edge to secure layers.  Adjust the width of the rectangle to suit the length needed.
