Leaving a tie whole

There may be ties you want to use without taking them apart.  If that is the case and you know ahead of time, wash the tie(s) by hand in a sink of cool water with a bit of dye fixative (silk ties especially) mixed in with the mild detergent.  Rinse well and press between towels to absorb most of the water before hanging to dry.  This should prevent most of the wrinkling.  Then press with a bit of steam if needed.
