Sewing ties for a skirt

A favorite use for family ties is to make a skirt - long or short.  Because silk or silky polyester ties are so stretchy, they are difficult to work with if you don't have a serger to sew them together.  You can tame the stretch by fusing narrow strips (about 1/2") of light-weight interfacing (advertised for "sheer" fabrics) to the wrong side of the seam allowance.  Cut all the strips the same length as the ties will be cut (raw edge).  Be sure the ties are not stretched when you cut!
