Hem facings

When you are lining a jacket that does not have separate lining pattern pieces, an extra step will make your lining hang better (and not create "bagging" of your garment). Adding a hem facing as part of the lining process is the answer.  To do this, cut strips of jacket fabric about 1 1/2" - 1 3/4" wide.  These are sewn to the bottom of the body and sleeve linings - with one necessary change to basic construction.  When sewing the side front lining to the front facing (in princess styles), leave the bottom 2" unsewn until AFTER adding the hem facing.  Then create a tuck in the lining to make the pieces fit together.
