One more thought on jacket facings

When I am making a "designer" lining, I add facings at the hems as well as at the front and at the back neck.  To do this easily, I cut 1 3/4" crosswise (or bias) strips of the facing fabric.  These are sewn to the hem edge of the sleeve lining, back lining, and side front lining with a 3/8" seam.  When sewing the side front lining to the front facing, line up the hem facing with the lower edge of the front facing and fold the excess lining over the hem facing for a smooth seam.  Tack the hem facings in place after completing the garment.
