Embellishments from ties

blog2.jpg I used a soft silk tie to make the two 3-D flowers on the back of the bag.  Cut a strip about 14"-15" x 1 3/4" from a tie.  Sew the short ends together in a 1/4" seam.  Fold the resulting ring in half wrong sides together and baste the raw edges together.  Gather at the raw edges with 1/4" running stitches with matching polyester thread, doubled.  Pull tight and fasten.  Tack in place and sew a shanked button over the center.
