Add a flange to binding

Sewing a skinny flange into a bound edge adds a touch of accent color.  To add a flange to a garment's bound edge, cut enough 1 1/4" bias strips to go around your bound edge and piece together (bias seam).  Fold in half lengthwise, right side out.  Raw edges even, baste with matching thread to the edge to be bound, seaming at the join if needed.  Sew binding over the flange, sewing from the wrong side to follow the stitching line (one thread closer to the fold of the flange).
