It's fun to recycle neckties into something else, and often one or more of the ties you use can determine a theme for your project.  I have used a variety of theme ties, including wolf conservation, Save the Children charities, golf, and the Statue of Liberty.  Use the theme tie to guide your pattern choices - Delectable Mountains with the wolves, houses with Save the children, etc.
