Hong Kong finish

An attractive designer touch for seams is the Hong Kong finish.  This is a skinny bias binding over the raw edges of a seam - beautiful for unlined jackets.  Cut enough 1 1/8" wide (1 1/4" for bulkier fabrics) bias strips to finish all exposed seams and piece together.  Sew right sides togeether a scant 1/4" from the raw edge; turn to the wrong side and stitch in the ditch from the right side, catching the raw edge of the binding.  The raw bias edge will be under the seam allowance and not exposed to view.
