Cutting long strips from ties

When I cut neckties into long strips, I start by laying out the wide end of the tie on my largest cutting mat and make sure it's smooth and not distorted.  Then I fold the narrow end over the wide and smooth it also.  I cut with a long, narrow ruler and a new sharp blade in my rotary cutter.
