If you want to change a zipper-front or non-closing jacket to a button closing, you will need to add a 5/8" allowance to the center front edges of the pattern.  The center front (the edge of the jacket before you added the allownce) will be the placement line for the buttonholes and buttons.  (Note that buttonholes for women are in the right front.)
